Immune System & Vitality
The Chaga mushroom is considered an important food source in traditional Chinese herbal medicine; the fungus was first reported 4,600 years ago. The Chaga was used in Northern Europe and Russia as early as the 16th century. The Siberian Chaga in Chaga Plus from Botanical Vitamins is the most potent of all Chaga strains. It is often found in the black birch forests of Northern Siberia.
The Birch Shingle (Inonotus obliquus, also known as Fuscoporia obliqua) is a fungus in the Hymenochaetaceae family. Outside the Netherlands, the most popular name is Chaga (Russian: pronounced ‘tsjah-ga’). Chaga is a fungus that looks like charcoal and grows mainly on the trunks of birch trees. Once infected, Chaga can live in a tree trunk for up to 80 years. The mushroom has been used for millennia and is often praised for its vast spectrum of potentially beneficial compounds, including polyphenols, melanin, triterpenoids and polysaccharides. Of these, polysaccharides are the best studied.
