PLUS formula

Botanical Vitamins supplements with the PLUS designation in the name have additional nutrients in their composition in addition to the main ingredient. The nutrients (vitamins, minerals and plant extracts) in the Botanical Vitamins PLUS formula have been carefully formulated so that, in addition to their independent properties, they also enhance the properties of the main ingredient in the supplement. See the ‘PLUS formula‘ section for more information.

Suitable for vegetarians, easy to swallow and free from unhealthy additives

Curcuma Plus is encapsulated in vegan HPMC capsules. HPMC stands for hydroxypropylcellulose is made from cellulose. The fabric is extracted from wood. Cellulose is actually an indigestible vegetable fiber and is recognized as such by our body. HPMC is similar to cellulose, but is much more soluble and is considered safe for human consumption.

Capsules containing a botanical extract are usually size #00, length 24 mm, diameter 9 mm. There is a large group of people who have difficulty swallowing this capsule size easily. The capsules used for Curcuma Plus are size #1, length 19 mm, diameter 7 mm. By not using unnecessary additives and dividing the reference intake doses over more capsules, we can use this easy to swallow size.

Curcuma Plus contains no filler or anti-caking additives.

100% compostable packaging

The compostable stand-up pouches from Botanical Vitamins are made from renewable raw materials (kraft paper and PLA) and can be composted both ‘industrial’ and ‘home’ under the right conditions. The materials used comply with European food safety requirements and are TÜV certified (EN13432). These stand-up pouches are suitable for packaging Food and Non-food products.

Botanical Vitamins PLUS formula

Botanical Vitamins supplements with the PLUS designation in the name have additional nutrients in their composition in addition to the main ingredient. The nutrients (vitamins, minerals and plant extracts) in the Botanical Vitamins PLUS formula have been carefully formulated so that, in addition to their independent properties, they also enhance the properties of the main ingredient in the supplement.

The nutrients have a high bioavailability, the body absorbs them easily. The dose is based on the daily reference intake. Not an extremely high dose, we assume that the PLUS formula supplements the nutrients you get through food. If the body is clearly deficient in a certain nutrient, you can take a high dose supplement of this nutrient in addition to a supplement with a PLUS formula.

If the body has enough of a certain nutrient, then the extra dose from the PLUS formula must be able to easily leave the body (usually via urination). The nutrients in the PLUS formula are in non-stackable form, the body does not retain too much of the nutrient.

Your body converts the nutrients in the PLUS formula into energy and building blocks that are divided over various aspects that contribute to your health. Aspects are eg immune system, psyche, detoxification, digestion, tissue repair and muscles. An imbalance in this energy distribution can ensure that certain aspects do not receive enough energy and cause health problems.

PLUS formula from Botanical Vitamins consists of the following nutrients:

  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate)
  • Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin)
  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
  • Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol/lanolin)
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Black pepper extract (95% piperine)

There are many more nutrients that contribute to the balance in your health. We have selected these because we believe that an imbalance can arise from these nutrients. In addition to a varied diet and healthy lifestyle, these nutrients can make a significant contribution to the effectiveness of getting your health back in balance.

Vitamin B6 is important for metabolism, especially for the breakdown and construction of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Vitamin B6 regulates the action of certain hormones and is necessary for growth, blood production and proper functioning of the immune system and nervous system.

Vitamin B6 of pyridoxal-5-phosphate is the active form. This variant is immediately available and cannot be stacked.

Vitamin B12 is necessary for the production of red blood cells. Red blood cells are needed to carry oxygen in your blood. In addition, vitamin B12 is necessary for proper functioning of the nervous system. Vitamin B12 is important for methylation. This ensures, among other things, the formation of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, noradrenaline. For example, melatonin is methylated (converted) serotonin and adrenaline comes from noradrenaline.

Methylcobalamin is one of the active forms of Vitamin B12. This shape is immediately available and cannot be stacked.

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is an antioxidant and therefore protects your body cells from damage. Vitamin C is also necessary for the formation of connective tissue, the absorption of iron and the maintenance of the resistance. Vitamin C plays an important role in the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters.

Vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid is sometimes not considered desirable for people with an ‘acid’ sensitive stomach. This usually only occurs with extremely high-dose Vitamin C supplements (sometimes more than 1000% reference intake). The dose of Vitamin C in the PLUS formula is low dose and will not quickly cause stomach problems. In addition, it is precisely the ascorbic acid that keeps the shelf life / strength of Vitamin C good, as is also the case in fruit.

Vitamin D is needed to absorb calcium from food into the body. It is therefore important for the growth and maintenance of strong bones and teeth. Vitamin D also plays a role in the proper functioning of the muscles and the immune system. Vitamin D stimulates the enzyme TPH2, which is important in the conversion of tryptophan to serotonin. Vitamin D inhibits the production of MAO-A (Monoamino oxidase) so that less serotonin is broken down.

Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is a more active form of Vitamin D than Ergocalciferol (Vitamin D2). The vitamin D3  is supplied by a Dutch supplier and is made from lanolin. Lanolin is the fat found in the wool of sheep. This vitamin D3 is therefore suitable for vegetarians.

Copper is a trace element and is involved in the formation of connective tissue and bones. It also ensures the formation of pigment in the hair, a proper functioning of the immune system and blood clotting. Copper is involved in the body in the transfer of oxygen (oxidation reactions).

Iron is a mineral that is important, among other things, for the formation of hemoglobin, a component of red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen throughout our body. Iron is also needed to produce energy in our cells and iron contributes to normal functioning of the immune system.

Zinc is sub of many enzymes in the body. Enzymes are substances that are necessary to enable processes in the body. Zinc ensures the construction of proteins, growth and renewal of tissue, the metabolism and the proper functioning of the defense and immune system.

The health claims for Black pepper extract (95% piperine), like all botanical herbs, are currently under consideration by the European Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (EFSA).

Black pepper is good for the respiratory system, the nervous system and the maintenance of a healthy digestive system. Piperine helps to maintain weight, is an antioxidant and supports the immune system. Black pepper contributes to the maintenance of normal liver function and contributes to keeping the skin healthy.

Sometimes the bioavailability of a nutrient is very low, something that often occurs with botanical herbs. It is then necessary to improve the recording. Piperine is an excellent combination that improves bioavailability.

Piperine is pungent, so it opens the pores of the gut. It is said to stimulate the enzymes involved in transport through the intestinal wall. This improves the absorption of the active nutrients into the blood.

It can counteract the glucuronidation of nutrients. In glucuronidation, a foreign substance is linked to a substance of the body and transported to the liver via the blood. By counteracting this, the nutrients remain available to the body. The result is better absorption by the body cells, or an improved conversion to the desired active form. For example with curcuminoids (active component of turmeric), which have to be converted into the active hydrogenated form tetrahydrocurcuminoids.
