Ashwagandha Sensoril® Plus

Relax & Energy

Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera), the first recognized herb of Ayurveda, has been called the “king of all herbs” and has been used and cultivated in India for centuries. A powerhouse of natural antioxidants, this botanical herb is central to the Ayurvedic lifestyle. In Ayurveda, Withania Somnifera, also known as Ashwagandha or Indian Ginseng is considered a “Rasayana” herb, meaning “path of the essence” in Sanskrit. Rasayana herbs prolong life according to Ayurveda and ensure a natural balance in the body. Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb traditionally used to help maintain a healthy balance between body and mind.

Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world’s oldest holistic (“whole body”) medicine. It was developed in India over 3000 years ago. It is based on the belief that health and well-being depend on a delicate balance between mind, body and soul.

Withanolides are an important bioactive component of the Ashwagandha. According to Ayurvedic, Ashwagandha is more than just a high withanolide herb. The synergistic effects of the various ingredients are very important to get the maximum effectiveness from this high-quality herb. Ashwagandha extract must contain at least the bioactive substances Withanolide glycosides and Oligosaccharides.

Withanolide Glycosides are a group of naturally occurring compounds found in various plants, in addition to Ashwagandha (Indian Ginseng) also e.g. Panax Ginseng. Withanolide Glycosides support the immune system and help with stress. Withanolide Glycosides have hundreds of metabolites; however, the predominant bioactive compounds are Withaferin A, Withaferin D and Withanone. Withaferin A is one of the most studied Withanolides and supports heart, brain health and a healthy immune response.

As a powerful antioxidant, Withaferin A is an important part of the broad-spectrum formula, but also much discussed. Withaferin A would be too potent at too high a dose and would reduce its effectiveness and increase the risk of side effects. Therefore, extensive toxicity studies have been conducted to ensure that Withaferin A and other Withanolides are not toxic to healthy cells when consumed in a reasonable dose. No adverse reactions were noted at doses up to 2g/kg/day standardized to three percent Withaferin A.

Oligosaccharides are a bioactive component of Ashwagandha that is often overlooked. Oligosaccharides are a type of carbohydrate that is essential for normal cellular function. Oligosaccharides also contribute to the soluble fiber content that supports digestion and heart health. Soluble fiber is critical for healthy digestion and can act as a prebiotic to help maintain healthy bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. Including soluble fiber as part of a healthy diet supports healthy cardiovascular function.

In Ayurvedic thought, all parts of the plant and root are used to get a broad-spectrum formula for wide application and optimal efficacy. There are many misunderstandings about the use of the plant part (the leaves) of the Withania Somnifera. Providers of Ashwagandha root extracts alone put the use of the leaves in poor light; There would be less research into the functioning of the leaf and the root. There would be fewer active substances in the leaf, the leaf would reduce its effectiveness. What are these statements based on, ‘where there is smoke, there is fire’ right?

Ashwagandea is one of the most researched adaptogenic herb, both leaf and root are represented in many studies. The leaf contains no less active ingredients, research has also shown that the Ashwagandha leaves and roots contain different concentrations of the different active substances. Using the leaf in a leaf/root broad-spectrum formula increases the concentration of Withanolide Glycosides. But the Ashwagandha leaves also contain a high concentration of Withaferin A, the high concentration is so high that it would reduce its effectiveness.

The Ashwagandha leaves supplement the various active substances and/or increase the concentration so that a broad-spectrum formula is created as intended by Ayurvedic thought. It is important to standardize the concentration of Withaferin A at a non-toxic level so that this powerful oxidant also has its correct effects in the formula.

Sensoril® Ashwagandha is developed and produced by the Natreon in the Indian city of Kolkata (formerly called Calcutta). Natreon’s botanical ingredients are derived from nature and based on Ayurveda traditional Indian medicine. The extracts are purified and standardized using proprietary technology that results in optimal levels of bioactive components. All of our ingredients are patent protected and have been tested in multiple clinical studies to ensure safety, efficacy and authenticity. Natreon has been a leader in the nutraceutical industry for over 20 years with extensive expertise in botanical cultivation and extraction.

Sensoril® Ashwagandha is an adaptogen derived from a unique blend of both leaves and roots of the Withania Somnifera plant, through a complete natural water extraction process, to provide optimal efficacy and bioactive diversity. This proprietary extract, with over 95% water solubility. Sensoril®, as the original holistic ashwagandha extract, is GRAS confirmed, non-GMO verified and certified organic.

The Ashwagandha is grown in central and northwestern India. Ashwagandha seeds are sown under a thin layer of sand in a nursery bed before the summer monsoon season starts around June. After about 40 days, the seedlings are transplanted to a field where they grow to full maturity. They are harvested when the plants have developed berries and the leaves are dry, about 160 to 180 days after sowing. Ashwagandha has been extracted from wild plants in India for thousands of years. Natreon continues this tradition, Sensoril® Ashwagandha is sourced from Madhya Pradesh in central India and the organic varieties come from certified organic farms in India. These farms provide a sustainable sourcing method that benefits the local farmers, improving their livelihoods and the local economy.

Quality is ensured by a holistic extract, by selecting the right chemotype and genotype of the plant, involving the right geographic area, harvesting at the right time, using both leaves and roots and optimizing the extraction process. The specifications for the bioactive level are: Withanolide Glycosides ≥10%, Oligosaccharides ≥32% and Withaferin A ≤0.5%, a proprietary compound. Quality control is carried out using the latest analytical techniques, such as HPLC and UPLC.

PLUS formula

Botanical Vitamins supplements with the PLUS designation in the name have additional nutrients in their composition in addition to the main ingredient. The nutrients (vitamins, minerals and plant extracts) in the Botanical Vitamins PLUS formula have been carefully formulated so that, in addition to their independent properties, they also enhance the properties of the main ingredient in the supplement. See the ‘PLUS formula‘ section for more information.

Suitable for vegetarians, easy to swallow and free from unhealthy additives

Ashwagandha Sensoril® Plus is encapsulated in vegan HPMC capsules. HPMC stands for hydroxypropylcellulose is made from cellulose. The fabric is extracted from wood. Cellulose is actually an indigestible vegetable fiber and is recognized as such by our body. HPMC is similar to cellulose, but is much more soluble and is considered safe for human consumption.

Capsules containing a botanical extract are usually size #00, length 24 mm, diameter 9 mm. There is a large group of people who have difficulty swallowing this capsule size easily. The capsules used for Ashwagandha Sensoril® Plus are size #1, length 19 mm, diameter 7 mm. By not using unnecessary additives and dividing the reference intake doses over more capsules, we can use this easy to swallow size.

Because Ashwahandha is ‘enormous’ sticky as an extract, the producer had to add anti-caking agents so that the Ashwagandha remains workable. Ashwagandha Sensoril® Plus contains maltodextrin and silicon dioxide as anti-caking agents. These additives have no side effects. It is sometimes reported about silicon dioxide that it makes absorption by the body more difficult because the silicon dioxide would envelop the active substance. This is not proven, but it is possible that the story came into existence because some producers also use the ‘cheaper’ substance silicon dioxide as a filler. And so an unnecessary amount of silicon dioxide is used. The use of maltodextrin and silicon dioxide in Ashwagandha Sensoril® Plus is minimal and only used to ensure a steady dose of Ashwagandha is filled into the capsules.

Botanical Vitamins PLUS formula

Botanical Vitamins supplements with the PLUS designation in the name have additional nutrients in their composition in addition to the main ingredient. The nutrients (vitamins, minerals and plant extracts) in the Botanical Vitamins PLUS formula have been carefully formulated so that, in addition to their independent properties, they also enhance the properties of the main ingredient in the supplement.

The nutrients have a high bioavailability, the body absorbs them easily. The dose is based on the daily reference intake. Not an extremely high dose, we assume that the PLUS formula supplements the nutrients you get through food. If the body is clearly deficient in a certain nutrient, you can take a high dose supplement of this nutrient in addition to a supplement with a PLUS formula.

If the body has enough of a certain nutrient, then the extra dose from the PLUS formula must be able to easily leave the body (usually via urination). The nutrients in the PLUS formula are in non-stackable form, the body does not retain too much of the nutrient.

Your body converts the nutrients in the PLUS formula into energy and building blocks that are divided over various aspects that contribute to your health. Aspects are eg immune system, psyche, detoxification, digestion, tissue repair and muscles. An imbalance in this energy distribution can ensure that certain aspects do not receive enough energy and cause health problems.

PLUS formula from Botanical Vitamins consists of the following nutrients:

  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate)
  • Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin)
  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
  • Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol/lanolin)
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Black pepper extract (95% piperine)

There are many more nutrients that contribute to the balance in your health. We have selected these because we believe that an imbalance can arise from these nutrients. In addition to a varied diet and healthy lifestyle, these nutrients can make a significant contribution to the effectiveness of getting your health back in balance.

Vitamin B6 is important for metabolism, especially for the breakdown and construction of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Vitamin B6 regulates the action of certain hormones and is necessary for growth, blood production and proper functioning of the immune system and nervous system.

Vitamin B6 of pyridoxal-5-phosphate is the active form. This variant is immediately available and cannot be stacked.

Vitamin B12 is necessary for the production of red blood cells. Red blood cells are needed to carry oxygen in your blood. In addition, vitamin B12 is necessary for proper functioning of the nervous system. Vitamin B12 is important for methylation. This ensures, among other things, the formation of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, noradrenaline. For example, melatonin is methylated (converted) serotonin and adrenaline comes from noradrenaline.

Methylcobalamin is one of the active forms of Vitamin B12. This shape is immediately available and cannot be stacked.

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is an antioxidant and therefore protects your body cells from damage. Vitamin C is also necessary for the formation of connective tissue, the absorption of iron and the maintenance of the resistance. Vitamin C plays an important role in the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters.

Vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid is sometimes not considered desirable for people with an ‘acid’ sensitive stomach. This usually only occurs with extremely high-dose Vitamin C supplements (sometimes more than 1000% reference intake). The dose of Vitamin C in the PLUS formula is low dose and will not quickly cause stomach problems. In addition, it is precisely the ascorbic acid that keeps the shelf life / strength of Vitamin C good, as is also the case in fruit.

Vitamin D is needed to absorb calcium from food into the body. It is therefore important for the growth and maintenance of strong bones and teeth. Vitamin D also plays a role in the proper functioning of the muscles and the immune system. Vitamin D stimulates the enzyme TPH2, which is important in the conversion of tryptophan to serotonin. Vitamin D inhibits the production of MAO-A (Monoamino oxidase) so that less serotonin is broken down.

Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is a more active form of Vitamin D than Ergocalciferol (Vitamin D2). The vitamin D3  is supplied by a Dutch supplier and is made from lanolin. Lanolin is the fat found in the wool of sheep. This vitamin D3 is therefore suitable for vegetarians.

Copper is a trace element and is involved in the formation of connective tissue and bones. It also ensures the formation of pigment in the hair, a proper functioning of the immune system and blood clotting. Copper is involved in the body in the transfer of oxygen (oxidation reactions).

Iron is a mineral that is important, among other things, for the formation of hemoglobin, a component of red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen throughout our body. Iron is also needed to produce energy in our cells and iron contributes to normal functioning of the immune system.

Zinc is sub of many enzymes in the body. Enzymes are substances that are necessary to enable processes in the body. Zinc ensures the construction of proteins, growth and renewal of tissue, the metabolism and the proper functioning of the defense and immune system.

The health claims for Black pepper extract (95% piperine), like all botanical herbs, are currently under consideration by the European Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (EFSA).

Black pepper is good for the respiratory system, the nervous system and the maintenance of a healthy digestive system. Piperine helps to maintain weight, is an antioxidant and supports the immune system. Black pepper contributes to the maintenance of normal liver function and contributes to keeping the skin healthy.

Sometimes the bioavailability of a nutrient is very low, something that often occurs with botanical herbs. It is then necessary to improve the recording. Piperine is an excellent combination that improves bioavailability.

Piperine is pungent, so it opens the pores of the gut. It is said to stimulate the enzymes involved in transport through the intestinal wall. This improves the absorption of the active nutrients into the blood.

It can counteract the glucuronidation of nutrients. In glucuronidation, a foreign substance is linked to a substance of the body and transported to the liver via the blood. By counteracting this, the nutrients remain available to the body. The result is better absorption by the body cells, or an improved conversion to the desired active form. For example with curcuminoids (active component of turmeric), which have to be converted into the active hydrogenated form tetrahydrocurcuminoids.
